Little Stone workshops are designed for ages 12 and up, though younger kids or anyone who wants to participate can place a "little stone" in our community mosaic that will be created on site! Nov. 4, 10am-12pm "Piece by Piece: Mosaic Workshop." Work with mosaic artists Rochelle Schueler and Jesica Carleton to learn the art of mosaic and how this medium can connect pieces of your personal self to the larger world. Learn how mosaic art has been used in other cities and areas of the world to build community and help re-build lives. Create a 4"x4" mosaic to keep or add to a larger project. All ages. PLUS: Visit the "At Liberty" First Friday, and Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3-5, to participate in a community-created mural project. Stop by at any time to put in your own "little stone" and help build a large-scale artwork designed and guided by Rochelle Schueler. Rochelle's experience in using mosaic to build community was strengthened by her work assisting Haitian youth to create a beautiful entry for a hospital in Jacmel, Haiti that was rebuilt after its destruction from their 2010 earthquake.
This mural titled "Ripple Effect" is designed to show how we can all be catalysts for change with one first step. BE A LITTLE STONE, be part of creating lasting art for our community.
Nov. 4, 2pm-4pm "Finding Your Voice With Paint Workshop." Work with facilitators from Base Camp Studio to explore themes and images that reflect issues that are most important to you. Create stencils and use non-toxic aerosal spray paints to develop your art as your message on larger-scale wood panels during this two-hour program. Wear clothes to paint in! Gloves will be supplied. Nov. 5, 12pm-2pm "In a Language We Can All Understand: Spoken Word Workshop." Oregon-based artist and performer MOsley WOtta leads a two-hour workshop and discussion on how to find the profound in the absolutely ordinary. Inspired by the documentary film LITTLE STONES and the framework of Detroit's "InsideOut" Literary Arts Program, MoWo will take participants through experiential discussion.
